CHILDREN'S YOGA CARDS
CLIENT: CHILDREN'S YOGA INSTRUCTOR IN MARYLAND
I was hired to design a set of cards illustrating a number of yoga poses for children, to be used by teachers in guiding the kids through their yoga practice. The first set of cards are of three types: yoga, movements, and breaths.. The categories of each reflect their purpose, to calm energy (blue), release energy (red), and focus energy (green). Each card is two sided, with the pose on the front and the instructions for each step on the back. In this set of cards, there are 58 poses.
ALBUM COVER PORTRAIT
CLIENT: BERNHARD KARAKOULAKIS, AKA BOO HOO
For this commissioned portrait, the client requested that the work be based on a portrait I had done years ago, taking as inspiration Gilbert Stuart’s unfinished portrait of George Washington. According to his suggestion, I included within the image his guitar, a glass of water, and the cloud shirt he is wearing. Since the piece was to be used as a CD cover, I combined the use of colored pencils and acrylic, allowing for a great amount of detail at a small scale. The album is called Lushly. Here is a link to Bernhard’s beautiful, melodic music.
E-CARDS
CLIENT: PAXTON INTERNATIONAL, SPRINGFIELD, VA
This project involved designing cards for occasions throughout the year that would be sent to clients via email. Most of the cards feature original illustrations, some were digital (ie. the streamers in the congratulations card at left), some were done by hand. Print versions were also developed with a greeting inside each.. A series of 16 cards were designed using the company's signature logo patch and a consistent format in color schemes that complement each holiday.
RETRO FLOW CHART
CLIENT: PAXTON INTERNATIONAL, SPRINGFIELD, VA
This project required some creative skills and research. The client was interested in presenting a very personal gift with a bit of humor and charm to a colleague in honor of his years in the industry. I was assigned the task of creating a flow chart full of the personal habits, likes, and dislikes of the recipient. I received numerous suggestions outlining what to include, and I designed a large format flow chart with retro styling and colors. I framed the work in a traditional black frame to create an office appropriate work of art.
WORD CLOUD ILLUSTRATION OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
CLIENT: LAWYERS COMMITTEE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS, SAN FRANCISCO, CA
The Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights in San Francisco was hosting a luncheon in honor of the late Martin Luther King, Jr., and I was hired to create an illustration for the program cover. I pulled words directly from a myriad of Martin Luther King, Jr. quotations, and the resulting typography forms the basis of the portrait.

OREGON STAMP PROJECT
This was a school project that involved researching a US state and designing a state stamp. I was assigned the state of Oregon, and I settled upon the state fish, the Chinook Salmon, because it offered the potential for a colorful, compelling image. Since stamps are so small, I felt the “zoomed in” approach could give the design more graphic punch than a distant wide-angle view ever could. Using a color scheme that related to the blue/red/yellow primary colors in the color wheel offers a vibrant, sunny looking design for a bold statement. For the font, I used something with a soft, natural edge, in keeping with the nature-themed design.
