HEADS

Heads embody a rich symbolism with numerous historical and cultural associations—as funerary emblems, symbols of the microcosm, trophies, embodiments of the seat of power, or representations of the spirit or intelligence of an entity or being. In this body of work, I use the heads of animals as focal points in addressing ideas of value and loss in contemporary society.
The works explore contemporary ideas relating to the excesses of unrestrained capitalism, the environmental and social costs of luxury goods, the depletion of natural resources, the exploitation of animals, and the illegal trade of endangered wildlife and antiquities for the acquisition of money and power. The items rendered are symbols of extravagant wealth, exploitation, power, and mortality.
